So to start I've of course had to do a fabric run. I headed to Trago in town just for some basic and cheap calico, jersey, etc. I'm starting with the dress of outfit one first just because it's a really simple shape and I wanted to just bosh one out easily and quickly to get me on my way. I'm using a basic jersey for this dress as I want comfort and ease as well as it being an interesting piece. I'm hoping the weight and floppiness (for lack of a better word!) will allow it to hang nicely from the body.
I've made the paper pattern piece from a plain t-shirt block, elongating the body and the sleeves. As the front piece is cut on the fold, I typically managed to make a mistake as soon as I began as I forgot and cut out two half back pieces instead. I'm sure it won't make a whole lot of difference though as once put together, there will be the same amount of fabric, it will just have a seam down the front. But we'll see. I guess this is why we doing toiling first!
I also made the paper pattern to the cape part of the cape coat today. There wasn't a specific pattern block for a cape, so I just used the neck of a t-shirt blog again (big enough for the head as I will be adding a zip) and freehand drew the cape shape to start. I'm pretty sure this will work out fine minus the possible addition of a few darts, but once again when I start, we'll see how it works out!
