I chose to start with the coat as I thought that will be more difficult to make than the jumpsuit for outfit two so these last few days I've been finishing up the pattern and cutting the fabric out. For the pattern pieces, the second years were in the process of doing a coat project so there was a coat pattern block that had been made up for them. I kept calling it a pea coat pattern, but thinking about it now, I think that was the wrong name as a pea coat is definitely not what I made! Whatever the name of the coat type, I used that block for the basic shape. I then adjusted and added to the paper pattern for details like the second cuffs on the sleeves and had huge help from Chihoko with the collar. There's something about myself and collars that just don't get along. Either way, the patter and pieces have been cut out and are ready to be sewn tomorrow!

For the toile material, I used a thick calico from Trago as for the final finished coat I will be using a think-ish wool that will have been pleated so will end up reasonibly thick. This way, I can get the general shape of the coat right, before thinking about the pleats. As for that side of things, I was deliberating between making the pattern piece just the shape of the coat pieces with the pleats already in the fabric, or making it so that the pattern was stretched out enough that I could cut out the shape and then pleat it afterwards. But as I run the risk of calculating it wrong, I've decided that it's wiser to pleat the whole piece of wool first (kind of like making my own fabric) and then cutting out the pattern shape from that. Fingers crossed it will work out like planned!
